As I have the serious chance of choosing a brand new Jimmy Choo bag for myself, I have been making some serious comparisons between the models in the Jimmy Choo Spring Collection.  I love the lines of the Jimmy Choo Ramona, but the dimensions are rather on the large side for my requirements.  The Ramona measures 16″ long  x 11″ high x 6″ deep at its widest point: that would hold enough for a visit to rv parks.  The everyday bag I have been using measures 12″ long and I think I would like something slightly smaller than that.  A bag with room for a wallet, purse, hairbrush and some makeup as well as space for some small purchases to be carried home.

The Roquette is a miniature version of the Ramona, and it is available in a gorgeous finish of Biker leather and Elaphe snakeskin (shown in the photo). At £661.00 it costs just over half the price of the Ramona Hobo, and it measure about half the overall size as well.  This little gem is just 6″ long, 6″ high and 6″ wide.  That is a little too small for my regular use, are you listening Jimmy Choo?  I would like something in-between!

Today I had a little look at the Designer handbags selling on eBay, just to see if maybe there was a genuine used designer bag that might be sold for a good price. I was interested in finding good used Jimmy Choo handbags, as I know it is practically impossible to buy a genuine new Jimmy Choo anywhere but licensed retail outlets. I was quite saddened to find some obvious fakes, being sold by ‘new ebay members’ – people with no history of buying or selling on eBay. They were poor imitations of a genuine designer bag, easily spotted from outside shots only: the seller had wisely not provided a photo of the lining and inside labels, where counterfeit items are usually exposed most easily. But look at the central strap if you wnat to spot the difference: on the authentic bag, the strap tapers neatly below the clasp. On the imitation, it is the same width all the way down. The story was pretty shoddy, as well: “Stunning Jimmy Choo designer Ramona bag Genuine leather. I bought it from Italy last week on holiday when I was visiting the wholesaler with a friend who is the son of the director at the company. The bag was on sale at the wholesaler for £455 but i got a good price on the bag because of my connections“. If you could get this bag, which retails in the UK at £1000+, for less than half price, would you not have a queue of eager friends ready and willing to buy it from you ?
If you need more clues as to this bag’s authenticity or lack of it – look at the colour of the hardware: the genuine article has subtle pale gold eyelets and buckles, the imitation is gaudy and brassy. It is simple to report these to eBay, and that is what I do when I see them. If I am buying a designer handbag, that is what I expect to get, like Outer Banks rentals. If I want a replica bag there are plenty of shops that sell clearly labelled, good quality replica bags.

Steve McQueen, the coolest man who ever lived, was the only film star I liked when I was a teenager. He reputedly asked for lines to be removed from the scripts, leaving him to act with eyes, facial expression and body language rather than mere words! Sadly he died early, of Mesothelioma, aged just 50. His style, happily, lives on: at Christmas my beloved asked for a Barracuta G9 jacket, also known as a Harrington jacket, for his present. That is the best excuse I can think of to show you a picture of Steve McQueen (above).  I bought the jacket by mail order from the very trendy retro shop in London’s Covent Garden, John Simons, which is definitely worth a visit for fashion inspiration. Be warned if you are a man looking for classic fashion direction – John Simons has a rare stock of vintage jackets, suits and trousers to tempt you. My husband never visits without buying ….

Another week, another visit to the shops in serach of the perfect red designer bag.  I ended up in Area, where they have the Chloe “See” large hobo.  The leather on this unstructured bag is buttery soft, and I am a pushover for quality leather.  However it is a very big bag, and hangs quite low down the body.  I also disliked the red bracelets on the straps.  With a bag this big, anything I put in would be at the bottom of the bag – out of easy reach!  It would be fine for carrying Blackberry plants home from the shops, maybe. There are some practical aspects to handbag design that are sometimes overlooked, I think. Look at the dimensions of this handbag and you will see what I mean: 12″H x 18″L x 5″Deep, plus 13″ strap drop.

It was very amusing last weekend when I was looking at the Chloe Paddington bags – I remarked on how long they were, extending past my body when I turned to the side. The assistant told me a lot of customers like the oversize handbags because they make them look slimmer!

This week I was away on a rare mini-break and of course I spent some time shopping. Important shopping, of course – handbags and perfume! Thanks to the staff at Gatwick airport I got four hours’ shopping in the duty free shop as the flight was delayed.  Still, I had plenty of time to visit the Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent counters, and try their latest fragrances.  Then I found a Designer Handbag shop next to the Harrods airport shop.  This was where I looked at some great Marc by Marc Jacobs bags in black and a gorgeous shade of plum, as well as this cute little Chanel grab bag in red – I just adore red handbags!

Update November 2009 – the handbags shop at Gatwick has been CLOSED!! So if you rae saving up for that loveley discoutn designer bag you will be better off shopping here. Just follow the links to find your favourite designers online at the best prices.
Now I am travelling more often, I am thinking of getting annual travel insurance – I’ll need it to protect all those gorgeous handbags.

Yesterday I saw a Mulberry Mabel Mini in Red at 70 per cent off!  You will have to look around for this deal, because I saw the bag reduced at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. However if a Mulberry Mabel is on your handbags wish list, this one is for you.  Personally I find the handles are only suitable for use as a grab bag. There is no way you could use this as a shoulder bag.  However it is a chance to get a classic Mulberry handbag at under £150.

Today you could be able to snap up your favourite Francesco Biasia handbag for less thna half price over at vente-privee.  They have selected bags from the Classic Chic, Glamour and Diva Dream Bag ranges in a selection of colours. This limited invitation-only sale is only on for 24 hours. There are plenty of designer handbags included but they are selling fast.  I wanted the Ruth Leather shoulder bag in brown, but it was already sold out.

I am not that bothered – my favourite handbag by Biasia is the Tess, an oversized tote in brown and black leather with plenty of buckles and silverware. If that had been sold out I would have been very upset.  But the Tess is one of the loveliest bags by Biasia so it never reached the markdown stage.
