I feel in a classic mood today, resulting from the fact that I watched a rerun of Brief Encouter on TV today. This has to be one of the most romantic movies ever made, and Celia Johnson wears some timeless fashions in the film. She actually does not carry many handbags in the various scenes, in fact the most prominent accessory she carries is a shopping basket. Makes you think - she still managed to have the romance of a lifetime! And if you have watched to the end of the story you will see that it is moving services who have the last laugh, when her lover moves to South Africa to end the affair.

MY fiance takes care of all the techy gizmos for our needs, I am very pleased to say. I get all the benefits of music a the ipod without lifting a finger. He compiles loads of different playlists that we can use for different times of the day, meaning we always have our favourite tracks available. The wonderful thing about putting music on an iPod is the quality of the playback and the editing. It is completely seamless and professional. He currently uses an ipod nano but he wants to upgrade to an iPod Touch that can be used with a different set of speakers.  That makes it easy for me as I am not the best at thinking of christmas gift ideas. I don’t mind buying it for him as long as the music keeps playing, maybe he will set me up with some new lists - some Christmas Carols would be good.

I know I wrote about how designers are using more Ostrich leather in handbags and purses, and I can see that is Ok because the birds are used for meat. I still find it hard, on the other hand, to get along with the idea of using snakeskin in bag manufacture. I do not like the look or feel of snake hide, either. These are teamed with gold pyramid studs, which I find quite ostentatious. I am not sure I would want to think that a creature had died simply to produce this one luxury item when there are so many other materials available. The poor old snake never did nay harm, and it doid not even need to take the alli diet pill, either.

At first I did not quite get the idea of the Nintendo Wii when it came out last year. But now the wider range of wii games is on the market, I can see this is not like any other games console that existed. I especially like the fact that these are not simply the type of games where you sit passively in you seat with a handset - the fit games are really effective and I am thinking about getting some as Christmas gifts for some couch potatoes that I know. When I saw the Wii fit advertised on TV I was amazed at the exercise you can get when you use it. I really like the idea of the balance board, I know it might look a bit strange to dance in front of the TV but it’s all in a good cause. As I now live miles from a gym, then I could probably justify getting one for myself, to make up for the hours I spend here writing blog posts about fashion. That is one activity that does not burn many calories, so I am going to check the price comparison sites to get the best deal that I can find.

Anyway, where was I? I started to tell you about my afternoon in Worthing. I got my nails done at my favourite Worthing Nail bar, Exquisite Nails in West Buildings. The technician reminded me that I had left it way too long for my infills, and it was no excuse to say that I had been decorating. Your nails still need to be trimmed and filled regardless. After my nails were infilled, I took a happy walk to the shops - mainly TK Maxx. They have been boasting that they carried Designer Bags bu I was way disappointed with the selection at TK Maxx and I did not spend a penny. I did not even get a cake: lack of cash is t  best diet pill I know.

On Tiesday I got an afternoon off in Worthing, our nearest large town in West Sussex. For a Londoner this take ssome gettingused to: I could get to Harvey Nicks on a quick tube ride when I lived in London, and now I pick up the designer crumbs in this rural area as if they were manna from heaven. I enjoy gping to Worthing for an afternoon of shopping, as it is a classic English town that happens to be by the sea.  There are a number of oevrweight shoppers circulating in the town, clearly I should consider supplying diet pills at a discount, then they would be able to afford some decent handbags.

We are all still feeling Obama fever over here, I am totally besotted with the new president but from the stance of this blog I am more interested in Michelle Obama’s fashion style. She has certainly looked good throughout the campaign, although my least favourite outfit was the dress she wore for the declaration in Chicago. I don’t like the way the black panel cuts her in half across the middle. Based on the showing so far we can expect some great outfits and handbags when the formal engagaments begin for the new first couple. And the girls look cute in their bubbly dresses. As for Barack, he has a way with a suit that very few men possess. It is not down to money: you can see guys in Savile Row numbers that look like a Pomegranate trees. You either have it or not, and the new president defintely has style.

Especially in a recession or downturn, handbags, scarves and shoes are a way to update your look and fell an little luxury without breaking the bank. Do not listen to the pundits who are predicting untold doom and despair! Instead, take a leaf out of Gordon Brown’s book and start spending to help the economic term life insurance recovery!
