Since the film version of Sex and the City came out I have been living through a SATC fest, as the re-runs are on the TV every night. I could answer a Mastermind quiz on teh subject now. One thing I have noticed is the way that Designer Handbags play a big part in Carrie’s love life. Tonight she was walking along the sidewalk when a guy bumped into her and her handbag fell on to the floor, spilling out its contents. A passer by helped her pick up the contents - this was Carrie’s first meeting with BIG. Like a true gentleman he did not draw attention to the condoms or diet pills!

The Designer Handbag Industry is growing in importance every day and this month it received another boost from the screening of the movie version of Sex and The City. Every major handbag designer in the world wanted to see their handbags included in shots from the film. Although very few designer names were shown, the benefits for the whole industry are huge. Louis Vuitton was a prominent name but they are not included in the latest monitor of the High End Handbag sector. None less than Forbes has published a list of the most expensive handbags: wth prices now running into six figures, these economists must be burning the midnight oil to analyse the lastest designer phenomenon.

Top of the list is Chanel’s “Diamond Forever” tote Only thirteen copies of this diamond and alligator handbag have been produced. A luxury version of the classic Chanel shoulder bag, the Diamond version has iconic Chanel “Cs” encrusted with 334 diamonds (total of 3.56 carats), set in 18-carat white gold. I was relieved to learn that the alligator skin is farmed….

Also in the list of ten most costly designer bags you will find the Fendi B Bag in black crocodile ($27700), followed by the YSL Muse bag in white crocodile (cheaper at only $19000). Read more »

The film of Sex and the City opened here last Thursday and I finally managed to see it last night. I was interested to see the designer bags of course and I was not disappointed. If you saw the interview with Carrie’s new PA you may have been shocked, as I was, that Ms Bradshaw did not know about Designer Bag Rental Services - in New York, of all places. The bag hire companies have been offering Designer Handbags here in the UK for a while as well, and you can hire your favourite Prada or Gucci Bag by the week or the month. Selling in hundreds of bags since launch in January 2008, the Burberry Warrior Luxury version is just one of the new products credited with saving the upmarket British Fashion Brand. When I was a girl the Burberry Check raincoat was a solid emblem of conservative style, but more recently Burberry’s check was sadly adopted by an army of Chavs and the counterfeit copies took the Burberry look in to some bad company. With the arrival of the new Chief Executive Angela Ahrendts and creative director Christopher Bailey, Burberry’s Prorsum collection (could a Chav spell Prorsum?), the company is thriving.

Apparently sales of the most expensive gold alligator skin version of the Burberry Luxury Warrior Bag, have been ‘in the hundreds’ in the last three months. How many have they sold - 200? That means this bag has generated more than £2m alone - not bad. Coupled with that the £3000 Chevron coat worn by Carrie in Sex and The City, and you have a very successful year for Burberry. The “luxury warrior” in gold is a Celtic metal studded designer bag is for the urban warrior. Its multiple pockets should hold your valuables safely out of the reach of urban pickpockets.
